Is the festive period one of the worst times for listing a property? - Not at all!
It is widely renowned that there are less property buyers looking during the winter period, a very true statement but one that might not be such a bad thing for savvy homeowners. There are a number of reasons why this is one of the best times of the year to list your property for sale, here are just a few:
1 – With fewer properties on the market, the remaining buyers actively looking are fiercely competitive and force premium prices.
2 - One of the busiest days of the year on property portals is Boxing Day. According to figures from Rightmove, there is about a 20 per cent increase in people house-hunting online from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day. You need to make sure your property is available at the optimum time. Browsing for homes is a classic post-Christmas hobby for new couples and families, like glancing at holiday websites for your next summer break.
3 – Millions of people travel to see family far and wide during the festive period, and you never know who may be considering relocating closer to relatives.
4 – January is incredibly busy for new properties and this will give you far more competition and potentially less buyer interest.
5 – Selling can be incredibly stressful if not handled correctly, and this is not the way to start the New Year, so get a jump start whilst your home has decorations up as it gives a warm, cosy feel to it.
We always say to clients “If you can picture yourself sitting round the dining table having Christmas turkey then this is the house for you!”
